About Me
I got my first computer in 1990, and aside from wanting to play games, I found myself wanting to write a story.
My mother used to fall asleep watching TV. When she woke, she would ask us about movie titles that didn’t exist.
In her honour, I started my first story based on one of those fictitious titles. Thirty years later, this morphed into my first novel: The Martial Art.

My Story
The seeds of my storytelling were sown in primary school, but life supplied the nutrients necessary for germination.
Write a story beginning with: 'It came from the top of the mountain...'
My English teacher used to give us assignments like this; having us create stories out of thin air. Most of my classmates used to groan at the prospect of having to make something up; not me, I reveled in it. In no time I’d come up with some outlandish alien or gunfighting tale; words pouring onto the page like liquid from my juice box. Eventually, my teacher had to set a cap on the amount of words the stories could have.
Experience teaches wisdom
My childhood was, in a word, happy. I had loving parents that provided for me in the best ways possible. While I never wanted for anything, I didn’t get everything I wanted. They taught me, discipline, restraint and respect for authority. Lessons which guide me still. During my lifetime, I have had many friends that were less fortunate than myself; not just financially, but also, lacking in the most basic of necessities; love. Love from family; parents and siblings. I felt a need to share with them, all that I had; which was more than enough for me. In doing so, I found that, their view of the world changed, and opened up the possibilities of what life could be. That was my inspiration for completing my first novel. If through my writing, I could do that for someone else, then it would have been worth it.
A piece of myself.
My first novel: The Martial Art, is an amalgamation of everything Dane Andrew. From my love of music, movies, relationships; life. Everything I have experienced, dreamed, regretted and accomplished, have all been poured into this tale of trial and error, love and hate, violence and kindness, despair and triumph.
My fervent hope, is that you enjoy this and future works as much as I enjoy creating them for you.
